The Guardian UK has reported that due to an explosion in the number of fraudulent gig ticket websites, the number of people ripped off this year may well exceed 2008's total of 30,000.

Some of the sites offering tickets to events such as Reading, Leeds and the V Festival are identical to scam websites that ripped many people off last year–yet the UK authorities seem powerless to act as many of these sites are hosted overseas.
