If you guessed Blink, you're right! "It's so unexpected. I'm just in awe!" exclaimed Blink when we cornered him at the IYME reveal at Palate Palette. "I've been paired with so many great candidates like [MCs] Joe Flizzow and Altimet, and CEO of companies, so I wasn't really expecting anything out of it."
As a DJ/Producer with a graphic design background in an ad agency, Blink has been injecting the fun back into music, parties, fashion and design as one-half of electro duo LapSap (with partner Xu). Pushing the tempos high and hard, the duo have been responsible for creating a cult following for their theme nights, and now they reside at Barsonic, Zouk KL every Saturday, dishing out some of the sauciest tunes to some of the most saucily dressed partygoers in KL with guest DJs.
Blink didn't think much of his IYME application but the judges sure did, including Hardesh Singh, IYME 2008 finalist, Composer/Producer and co-founder of Popfolio (the good peeps we work with for Junk's online music player!). "He's being very ambitious and seeing the bigger picture," said Hardesh on why Blink was picked. "And he's starting to show promise."
Blink will travel to the UK between 4 and 16 May to compete in the IYME finals together with participants from eight emerging countries. He will also spend his time there meeting some key people in the industry and sharing his LapSap love to the rest of the world. "It's a fully paid business trip," explains Hardesh of the UK IYME experience. "You meet a range of contacts from venue people to labels...you get a very good idea of how the industry works."
Hardesh is currently working on launching his new digital music label R Records with Malaysian singer Reshmonu, which offers mobile downloads of music from local artists such as Bunkface, Altimet, Point Blanc and Reshmonu himself. After his IYME trip, Blink will be touring Germany and Belgium with Xu for LapSap from 14 to 29 June. Junk wishes him all the best in the IYME finals in the UK!
