At Junk, we tend to overuse the word “awesome". It’s a flaw we’ve been meaning to correct, but not today: Brütal Legend sounds awesome. And amazingly, it doesn’t even matter whether you like Jack Black (we know many find him to be an overbearing imp).
All he does in the game is provide facial features and vocals to Eddie Riggs, a rock hero who wages war against General Lionwhyte, a twisted glam rocker who has “hair so fabulous he can fly on it". Eddie will use Clementine (his wonder Flying V axe), an actual axe, and an army of ape-like headbangers to stop Lionwhyte’s legion of demons from taking over this alternate, Hell-like dimension. The source of Eddie’s powers are the fans, human souls who have burrowed their way from the underworld to listen to great rock ‘n’ roll. But how does Eddie power up? Booths where these souls buy merch!
Brütal Legend is brought to you by EA and Tim Schafer, the genius behind Full Throttle, and will also feature the voices of Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister, Judas Priest’s Rob Halford and The Runaways’ Lita Ford. The game will be released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in October 2009. Head on over to the website for details and screen shots, GameSpot for a review of the demo or watch the vid below:
