Fans of independent hardcore are in for a treat this month: Soundscape Records are bringing over Envy and their signature haunting blend of screamo and post-rock all the way from Japan! Soundscape Records have been responsible for bringing over some of the biggest acts this region has seen, including Mogwai, Battles, My Disco and Toe.

Envy, who consist of Nobukata Kawai, Masahiro Tobita, Manabu Nakagawa, Dairoku Seki and iconic frontman Tetsuya Fukugawa, will play at the spacious Bentley Music Auditorium in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia on 11 July. Their live shows have become the stuff of legend, with Fukugawa’s adeptness at manipulating the aural disparity between the louder and softer elements of screamo, as well as spouting poetic lyrics.

Due to the recent forging of close ties between Scottish rock band Mogwai and Envy, the latter have come to incorporate elements of post rock in their unique sound. The post-rock influences can be heard on Envy last few releases, including A Dead Sinking Story (2003) and Insomniac Doze (2006); in return, Fukugawa has featured on Mogwai’s ‘I Chose Horses’ off the 2006 album Mr. Beats.

Envy will be supported by Malaysian screamo outfits Love Me Butch, as well as the sociopolitically-charged garage band Deng Deng_Etc. Get your tickets quick, this is the one show this year you cannot miss out on.
