Ah, yes. The hunger for KLue Urbanscapes 2009 gnaws. It’s still six days away; but as an apéritif, have Adrian from Malaysian indie outfit Furniture talking about the top three acts he wants to see (when not performing, of course; otherwise, it'd be quite rude). His picks:
1. The Cinescapes Stage
The collaborations happening on The Cinescapes Stage do sound enticing. I've seen Azmyl Yunor, Ronnie Khoo and Yong Yandsen banging it out to Kit Ong's The Flowers Beneath My Skin before a couple of years back so this one's definitely a highlight. Damn Dirty Apes' return to the stage should also be interesting.
2. Yuna
Yuna's someone that has caught my attention in the last year or so. I do in fact prefer her acoustic sets rather than the full band one, which I am thinking she would default to being on the big stage and all. But either way, she's a captivating performer with pretty lyrics and a great sense of melodic structure. A must watch.
3. Nao
Nao's set is a must-watch if not for anything, at least for their incredible musical tenacity and stamina. You would be hard-pressed to remember a single note from their 15-minute epics but when you're listening at them go, it sometimes feel like you're watching a circus of impossible musical feats. A real triumph of musical technicality and shameless musical discordance.
