Malaysian crooner Reshmonu officially launched his R Records label last Friday in an elaborate event at Laundry at The Curve. And the label is hoping to, well, piss on the parade of major labels by being purely digital and single-based. What this means is that when an artist comes onboard, they’re only signing up for one song (as opposed to the usual multi-album deal) for digital downloads while maintaining intellectual copyright of the track.
Case in point: Bunkface. The boys followed up from their sweep (deservedly or not) of multiple Shout! Awards by receiving a cheque for about RM33,964 from R Records for their single ‘Revolusi’. That’s a load of money. For RM33,964 Bunkface could buy:
- a YW jet ski
- four pairs of Bodega x Puma Sky II High Spy vs. Spy kicks
- four copies of Chuck Norris Vs. Mr. T: 400 Facts About the Baddest Dudes In The History Of Ever
- A very heavy horse head
- Some change for shipping costs
Besides Bunkface and Reshmonu, R Records currently has (well kinda, since they don’t really sign up artists in the traditional fashion) on its download roster Karen Kong, Ruffedge, Kraft, Rachel Henry, James Baum, Masta Clan, Elvira, Jerome Kugan and Point Blanc.

Great job done by Reshmonu in helping out our local indie bands marketing their creations at best value. Surely these side income can help them building a better future for the band..
Btw, is this a payroll for the licensing fee to distribute the song or a royalty for the amount that have already purchased?
