The kendama is a Japanese toy that consists of a hammerhead shark-looking wooden stick with a ball attached to a string. The objective of the thing is to cup the ball (oo-er) on the concave surfaces of the hammer, and finally sticking the ball in the protrusion (double oo-er). Those are just the basics–the Japan Kendama Association lists up to 2,000 "wazas", or ways to cup or stick the ball in.
But seriously, it's hours of fun: yesterday we got to meet up with eDosh (of Doshie Skates) as well as Sukeats and the people of Wheel Love, who gave us a live demo of the kendama. Bloody impressive. Plus, we got a couple of kendamas for free, which means–once again–work has had to suffer as a result (hence the paucity of blog posts. Heh).
The kendamas are available on the Kendama Malaysia and WL33 websites for RM80 (for competition-grade kendamas) and RM45 for the clones. If you wanna see what this seemingly simple contraption can do, watch these videos:
