The year's been very kind to the gaming world and with barely three months left, still more awe-inspiring, time-consuming and life-draining games are being released. Here are 5 gems to keep you away from work 'til the year end.
1. Bayonetta
Platform: Xbox 360, PlayStation 3
Release Date: October 2009
Developer: Platinum Games and Sega
Okay, so Bayonetta is a game that plays like Devil May Cry (it's directed by the same guy) and stars a hot babe who doubles as a witch who kills angels using four guns (two hand-held and one attached to each heel!) and her hair, which summons scary demons. And get this: her mystical hair actually forms her clothes and every time she summons a demon, it goes everywhere else (except onto her body) and snaps back on when she's done. What kind of fanservice genius is this? Check out these NSFW pics of this happening here. So yeah, technically she walks around naked. This makes her very hot. Apparently, hotter than your girlfriend. The fight trailer's pretty cool too.
2. Merry Gear Solid 2: Ghosts of Christmas Past
Platform: PC
Release Date: December 2009
Developer: Arthur Lee
I totally LOL-ed at this cute take on the popular Metal Gear Solid series I found at The Feed. How not to love it with hero-stealth guy Snake going into such a merry disguise to hide from the bad guys? Developed by indie game developer Arthur Lee, Merry Gear Solid 2 is the sequel to Merry Gear Solid: Secret Santa, which he describes as a "top down stealth action game that plays like a simplified version of Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid series." You can also follow Arthur's progress with the game at superundungeonrun.
3. Avatar: The Game
Platform: PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, Wii
Release Date: 24 November 2009 (US), 30 December 2009 (Europe), December 2009 (Australia)
Developer: Ubisoft
Based on the 3D science fiction epic by James Cameron, this game kinda sits apart from other movie-to-game adaptations, in that Cameron basically sat in on the development from day one. Game engines, assets, concept art, sound files, etc have all been shared by the movie team with Ubisoft, so what you're getting would be a pretty spot-on representation of the film and more. What's really cool is that Ubisoft seems to have really worked on the alien planet all this happens on and so far, it looks pretty damn stunning. Read the preview here.
4. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Platform: PlayStation 3
Release Date: 13 October 2009
Developer: Naughty Dog
Naughty Dog is back with another action-packed adventure almost guaranteed to give you a gaming experience of severe Indiana Jones-like cinematic quality. A possible candidate for game of the year, the reception for this has been positively off the charts, with top scores by industry heads across the board. The French edition of PSM3 gave it a 21/20 and IGN called it a phenomenal successor to the first game. Check out the IGN video review above.
5. Dragon Age: Origins
Platform: PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3
Release Date: November 2009
Developer: BioWare
This probably has to be one of the most promising RPGs to come out in recent times. ESRB rates it as mature and says it contains blood, intense violence, partial nudity, mature language and sexual content (yes, there's some pixelised sex going on). What more could you want? The launch trailer is also one of the best I've seen so far when it comes to bloody and absolutely medieval action. You can read a preview here.
Any other new games you've heard of that blow your mind? Bring it!
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Hot damn! fucking ecxited about bayonetta!
