We could send personal thank you notes, but this isn't some Jane Austen novel. So we're running it here. Okay. Imagine it's 2001, and we're one of those awkward dudes on MTV TRL sitting around Carson Daly. They play a song and a little box appears at the bottom of the screen with our faces in it, and we give our shout outs and hollas to all the people who made Junksounds Awards 2009 the ginormous success it's been so far: over 85,000 votes since we started. Given that we got over 10,000 votes in the span of two months for last year's Junksounds, we're reeling in glee.
First, big props to The Jakarta Post, who did a big piece for Junksounds. An excerpt below (click HERE to read the full article):
After a few years hanging around in the circus, [Junk] have come up with something new and big, Junksounds Awards, which is a music award aimed to show some love to regional bands that have been very influential for people over the year.
"The nominees come from or are based in the five regional countries in Junk's focus: Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines," explains April Kuan, managing [editor] of Junk. "The aim of Junksounds Awards is to recognise and give credit to some of the best and most talented music makers in the Southeast Asia region."
Bunkface fan MizzYasmin calls Junksounds "awesome" (in brightly-coloured font, no less) on her blog Just Freak Out And Let It Go. We agree with this. Jiboneus went through the intricate ordeal of linking every nominated band for Junksounds 2009 while Anakbangsa, Magmug, and countless others on Twitter and MySpace (not forgetting the actual nominated bands themselves) helped to spread the word. We've also hooked up with UR 105.9FM in the Philippines!
In short, whether you were named here or not, we extend a big hearty thank you.
Cast your votes for your favourite acts from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines NOW! Voting closes on 30 November 2009. And take a listen to the music of some of our nominees on our Junk Compilation HERE, or via our Junk Player on the front page of www.junkonline.net.
