Couple does Humanzee, then TOPMAN

Malaysia's Couple is an indie pop band for the people, thanks in one-fourth to frontman (and we reckon PR magnet and everyone's favourite neighbour) Aidil Rusli. The foursome have come a long way since their hugely received album Top Of The Pop was unleashed in 2006, and now are gearing up for the release of their full-on Malay language album Pop Tak Masuk Radio at the tail end of 2009. In the meantime, they're basking in the recognition of being nominated Best Pop/Indie Rock Act in the Junksounds Awards 2009 (vote for them HERE!); having 'Now That I Can See' featured on the pilot episode of Humanzee!, directed by James Gunn (Slither, Dawn Of The Dead) as part of the Masters Of Horror Do Comedy project for Xbox LIVE. We take five with Aidil before their big stage debut at Zouk KL for the TOPMAN party on 13 November.

How did you guys get together?
We got together just out of boredom initially. We wuz in college, which wuz in the middle of nowhere, so jamming seemed like a good idea. After that we just got carried away, I guess, with endless stabs at that rock 'n' roll pie!

What's a funny story you can tell us about Couple?
Despite our very plain name, people always get confused; like people will ask us things like, "Why Couple when there's four of you?" or "Who's coupling with who," which would imply that two of us are into guys. Nothing wrong with that, but I'm pretty sure all the guys in the band are straight...hehe. Another thing about our name: at gigs the announcers quite often get our name wrong, like introducing us as "The Couple" or "Couples" or "The Couples"!! And we thought having a simple name like this would help.
 
What's your all-time favourite track, album or artist?
That's never an easy question to answer, but for me personally, I love The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Who, Big Star, the Raspberries, Cheap Trick, Guided By Voices and whatever unholy spawn that comes out of that gene pool!!

What inspires you creatively?
Our feelings and the urge to rawk!

What can partygoers expect from Couple at the TOPMAN party?
They can expect four clowns onstage! But the clowns will rawkkk though...
