Although the new wave cleanness of Pop.SG seems like a step up in professionalism, it’s also so clean and inoffensive that it’s like chugging down antiseptic. Yeah, it’s detestable when bands pull out “edginess” from their ass; and it’s good, for character’s sake at least, that Singapore’s The Marilyns seem too content to fall within that category. But as best embodied by ‘The Devonshire Chronicles’, this release is so PG-13 and radio-friendly that it makes you want to go out and do evil things just to compensate. Equilibrium, dammit, equilibrium.
