Amateur Takes Control
You, Me And The Things Unsaid
(Kitty Wu)

It has always been my belief that good music is defined by the journey it takes you through and if it is an unforgettable one that you would not mind experiencing again and again, then it’s pretty much worth paying a million bucks for. Amateur Takes Control’s (ATC) long-awaited first album You, Me And The Things Unsaid is worth more than that.

Known for their intense onstage performances and dedication to their craft, ATC–made up of Adel Rashid, Isa Ong, Jeremy Leong and Muhammad Syahadi–have come a long way since their formation in late 2006.

There is no doubt that this young band has talent and it is no wonder that they have such a dedicated fan base here in Singapore’s underground music scene. A fan base that frontman Adel announced at their recent album launch “made the release of this album possible”.

You, Me And The Things Unsaid is a testament to the progress and maturity in ATC’s musicianship. Filled with awe-inspiring tracks like ‘Something You Should Know About Last Night’, which sounds as ridiculously amazing and equally tear-inducing live and is reminiscent of Envy’s ‘Further Ahead Of Warp’; ‘Built On Miles Of Hope”, which was inspired by Texas is the Reason’s ‘Back And To The Left’; and the psychedelic ‘Both Hands On Wheels’; You, Me And The Things Unsaid–mastered by Wallwork Record’s Nick Chan–is a journey worth exploring.

It is a really well put together album that has a good flow and it is stupefying that such craftsmanship came from such young boys, three out of four of whom are still in their teens. If you compare any of these tracks to the ones that they put out during their early days, you can pretty much tell how much more well-versed the boys are in the instrumental rock genre.

Having recently been signed to Kitty Wu Records, there is absolutely no doubt that ATC has a long future ahead of them in this industry. And this album is a gem that you should add to your music collection.
